Kenwood TS-990F for Sale

Bob Brodovsky

My uncle, Fred W7LQL is selling his Kenwood TS990 HF radio with the factory speaker and microphone. He's asking $4,000.00 or best offer. There's very little time on the radio as he's been using his Flex most of the time. The radio is located in Medford OR. It's a pickup only deal. This is a great deal for the flagship radio from Kenwood.  Get ahold of me if you have any questions.

I own and use this radio as my primary base station. If you're concerned about Kenwood's commitment to this product, don't be. They just released a new firmware version that contains some nice feature enhancements to the scope and for those that use or like CW, it now contains a CW decoder / encoder. The firmware was release is 1.21 and was release a couple of weeks ago.

FYI... The product number is actually TS-990S, if you want to google it.

Have a great day,

I love that Kenwood  TS 990! It is pricey. In my Ham Station I had a Kenwood Transceiver but can’t remember the model number. Also had a Kenwood 2 Meter rig. The entire Ham Shack was destroyed in the San Diego Wildfires 2007. I used an Astron Power Supply. I’m rebuilding my Shack once again.
I had to have warranty work on the Astron but have never had any trouble with any Kenwood products.

People think the TS-990s is pricey but if you keep in mind everything you need is built in, it's very competitive.

Actually the $4000 price is not bad. A KX3, Panadpter and 100w ATU amp is $3600+ tax. You still need a power supply and another 100w to match the TS-990S. And a bunch of features and capabilities built into the TS-990, not in the KX3.

Nice thing about the KX3 is it's portable the bad thing about the KX3 is someone can walk away with it easily.

The nice thing about the TS-990s is you can find the guys that takes your TS-990S in the hospital with back issues LOL

The bad thing about the TS-990s is you cannot move it around the shack very easily.

Have a great day,
Birton, N6UG

And, you can't easily ship the 990 off for repair, while the KX3 will fit in a shoe box. :-)

Also, click the link to her school on her QRZ site. The school and a teacher are really promoting the hobby.
It is so discouraging that our own Sierra College in Rocklin let the ham station there go to seed. No teacher to push it and no one to keep it operational. I tried to interface with a couple teachers there in the "technical programs" to see if the our Club could assist them to get it going again. Since K6ARR passed, the "red tape" to get things going, like repairing the yagi antenna, are insurmountable.
I suppose the next step might be to talk to the person in charge of the entire school and campus, but it would likely require someone on Staff that is willing to be responsible for the station and/or even develop curriculum. This would be a very cool place to do for VE sessions, wouldn't it?
I might have been interested at one time, but my California Teaching Credential has expired and the rules and regulations for getting re-instated are again, insurmountable! Welcome to California regulations!

Thanks for posting. That is AMAZING!

Too bad about the Sierra College foothold slipping. Sounds like it will take some work getting it back on track. Wish I could help but I'm a little far away and not qualified to teach much of anything. Looks like they do have an active STEM Interest: https://academics.sierracollege.edu/stem, and an AA Program in Mechatronics: https://academics.sierracollege.edu/mechatronics, Also, and Independent Study program in Engineering but nothing specifically in Electronics. It's a shame, really, All the local JCs used to offer quite a few courses in all things electronics.

Best Regards,

I thought some of you might enjoy the attached issue of Solid Copy, the newsletter from the CWOps group. Note there is a "slow-speed" CW event coming in March, where some of the speedy guys in the Club will slow down for you ... It's fun to see how many you can work in one of the three, 1-hour sessions. Non-members give NAME and STATE. Easy!

Peanut reflector? DMR radio on your smartphone

Greg D. <gregd2350@...>

Mostly for Bob K6UDA, but perhaps others know about this as well...

I was listening to the "Linux in the Ham Shack" podcast this morning,
and they had a short segment about a beta-level smartphone application
called "Peanut", written by PA7LIM. It's kind of like Echolink, in that
it connects to the ham radio infrastructure, but this one apparently
connects to some of the DMR and D-Star reflectors.

I was wondering about the relationship between this "Peanut reflector",
and the DMR / D-Star reflectors it seems to connect to. Is Peanut a
"reflector of reflectors", or something yet different?

Edited

First ... this is a different email for you Greg. I approved it, but it came in as needing "moderated" as the system didn't recognize you. If this is the email you wish to use, let me know.
As far as Peanut, (developed by David-PA7LIM) I am using it now with an Android touchpad and it is an excellent app. It no longer connects to the RF side of things, due to some early issues with the PTT sticking open. The software has been updated and I heard the author may reconnect to the DSTAR RF side of things via ref:030. There are also many XRF "rooms" that show up in the list, but they are currently not connected to RF either ... VOIP Internet only.
Having said all this, it is an excellent communications tool that I use weekly to connect with a good friend in the UK, one of the most difficult places to connect to over HF ... So, for me it works!!

Oops, sorry.  Wrong email on this end (that's my generic one, sans call sign...).  No need to add it.

Thanks for the info on Peanut.  The author has some other apps for the digital side of the world, so it looks like an interesting ecosystem to get involved with as it develops.

Yep!  Got two really nice pictures this morning around 10:30am.

Next good pass coming up at 3:18pm (in about half an hour)!  Pass starts in the north west, goes past north to peak in the north east at 40 degrees,, setting in the east.
