64:1 Longwire Transformer

Dennis - WU6X

I'm going to place another Amidon order for cores used to construct a 64:1 transformer, suitable to end-feed a 64' long wire with SWR figures typically lower than 2:1 (no tuner required) at 400 watt capacity. A 100w version is also possible with a smaller core as indicated below:

FT-114A-43 (100w core, 1.14 inch diameter) - $2 plus shipping
FT-240-43 (400w core, 2.4 inch diameter) - $9 plus shipping

NOTE: Stacking the 240-43 will get 800w capacity; not sure about the smaller core, whether the power doubling effect is the same or not. KM6AB is the "guru" on this stuff, and has done much testing.

Let me know via email if you want one (or more) ... I'm will place a "group order", which will split the shipping charges. I plan to place an order in a week or so, depending on the response to this post.

More info on the transformers can be found at: https://pa3hho.wordpress.com/end-fed-antennes/multiany-band-end-fed-english/

Re: For Sale: Alinco DR-610 dual band mobile & Glass Mount antenna, with car attached

Greg - KO6TH

Adding some pictures of the radio, and car...

The car also has a 20-channel CB radio (normally 23 channels, but the top couple don't work).  That's free with the purchase, but trivial to remove if not desired (sits on the floor under the driver's seat).

The price goes up if I have to sell the car to a non-ham, to offset my sitting upside-down in the passenger seat to get at the screws holding the Alinco radio in.

Ammo Cans

Jim - N6MED

For those who like to use ammo cans for storing various bits and pieces of Ham tools, MFJ analyzers, grab-'n-go radio mountinging boxes, etc. etc. and haven't discovered it yet: Costco has a bundled (nested) set of >new< steel .50cal & .30cal ammo cans for $20.
Best regards all!

Cubic Astro 150

gbrent@...

I have decided to sell some of the equipment I seem to have accumulated over the years.  One of those items is a Cubic Astro 150 HF radio.  It is complete including matching power supply, mobile bracket, mic and schematics.  It is virtually brand new.  But rather than put the details here I have posted a PDF with the information and pictures on my Dropbox account.  Here is a link to that location - or at least I hope it is a link and I didn't mess it up:  Astro 150 Info.pdf
https://www.dropbox.com/s/dvhe9etc5a4gojc/Astro%20150%20Info.pdf?dl=0

Eventually I would probably put this on Ebay but the cost of shipping would be more than the value of the radio.  So, I'm offering to members of the club first.  Have a look and let me know if you are interested.

Yup, I just logged and rode herd last year. So I'll work harder on contacts this year. I heard Dennis say he could have  used a hand on digital last year, that sounds like fun. :)

Hi FD-2016 Hopefuls,

A review of last year's stats by operator shows we did very well overall. But, remember, to change the "operator initials" in the logging software to get your Q's counted. If you don't change the operator when you sit down to operate, we have no way of knowing you were operating and your contacts likely went to the previous operator's initials. Sorry about that ... just saying!

We plan to go over the logging software at the next meeting's Tech-10, I believe. So, don't miss it.

By the way Bob, I just watched your new U Tube video, entertaining as usual. Is that a tattoo of a KX3 on your shoulder?

So this is a forecast from a year ago?  And yes, ionospheric conditions last year were pretty poor.

Three CME's will impact Earth starting at 0000 UTC 6-22-15. The major CME from last evening will reach Earth at 1400 UTC 6-22-15. This is a major storm. All three are forecast to last well over 40 hours total. More information from the SWPC should be posted on this Father's Day Holiday.

Is there a shift sign up? My work and family situation doesn't allow me to get out to the meetings right now. I intend to be up there all day saturday and early Sunday if needed.

For Sale: Alinco DR-610 dual band mobile & Glass Mount antenna, with car attached

Greg - KO6TH

Before I rip the radio out, and try to remove the glass mount antenna without breaking something, I'll give the Ham community first shot...  I'm looking to sell my mobile rig, with car attached.  The radio is an Alinco DR-610 2m/70cm dual band FM mobile rig, with the usual features (50 watts, memory, tone stuff, DTMF hand mike, etc).  It's nicely mounted in the dash, below the AM/FM deck, and coupled to a Larsen 2/70 glass mount antenna on the rear hatch window.  The overall setup works quite well.

The car is a 1994 Acura Integra GS-R, the sportiest version of the car.  It has 268,000 miles on it, but the engine was replaced a few years ago, and has less than 75k on it.  5-speed manual transmission, power everything, Alloy wheels, sun/moon roof.  AM/FM/Cassette.  Pretty much everything works.  Well maintained, no rust, no rips in the upholstery, etc.  Just got it smogged, and all is well.  I'm the original owner.

If you look online, the GS-R models for this year have an AVERAGE price of nearly $6,000.  I'll let it go - with the radio - for $4,500.  Current Amateur Radio operator license required.

Contact me by email at my call sign (KO6TH) at ARRL dot net.

DXE Balun

k6dgw@...

After almost a year here in the Silver State, I'm finally getting down to stuff I paid to have moved and will never ever need.  One item is a 10 KW, 11 KV DX Engineering 4:1 balun, open-wire to coax.  I believe it is a DXE-BAL200-H22-C.  Unfortunately, the printing on the label has all faded off.  It's in a cast aluminum case which I had bolted to the tower at the base.  DXE catalog that just came lists it at $189.  To SFARC, I'll ship it for $100.

Also down near the bottom of the stuff is some more things from the estate of Lee, K6LQT.  I'll post them here first as soon as I figure out what's there.

PS:  I wasn't running 10 KW to it, the feedline was just at a high voltage point on 160 and I needed the 11 KV insulation rating. :-))
