State QSO Party Challenge

Orion, AI6JB

Folks,

There is a new challenge in the works just announced on the ARRL Contest Journal.  It is called the State QSO Party Challenge and it starts this year 2020!  This challenge encourages Hams to enter as many State and Province QSO parties as possible.  Hams will be recognized for achieving 5 levels:  Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond.  All you have to do is work a contest and log your score on 3830.com.  You do have to work at least two parties and make at least two contacts.  By the way, the Bronze level score is 100 points, e.g. 50 contacts in 2 contests.

Your score is calculated by taking the total number of contacts and multiplied by the number of contests you work.

Now I know what you are think "But, if I work the W6EK station at CQP, I won't be able to get credit for that!".  Not to worry, they thought about that.  Each operator listed under the W6EK or any other multi-op station, will get credit for the total number of QSOs divided by the total number of operators.

For more information, check out their website at http://stateqsoparty.com/.  They have 47 approved QSO Parties listed on their website.  The first three are the BC, Vermont, and Minnesota QSO Parties on the weekend of February 1.

This looks like a lot of fun.  Hope to hear you on the air!!

The number in Column "C" is the mileage from the designated center of the contest circle to your QTH, as determined by QRZ lookup.

Hi everyone,

Contest Online Scoreboard is a bit of a challenge to get figured out, but I think we have it.

After you log in, go to your profile.  Be sure to select the following:
Club:  "Sierra Foothills ARC"
Team:  "Sierra Foothills ARC"

We have given up on a private room.  Don't quite see the need at this time, but if you do, please do share.

Hope to hear you all on the air this weekend!!

Just off Taylor Rd. 1.5 miles north of the Valencia Club. No call in frequency, the repeater will be tied up with an event and we’ll be busy making contacts. Feel free to stop by whenever. we’ll be in the back yard for the next 30 hours or so.

Hello Team!

My apologies in advance for not getting you updated information sooner.

Bob, K6UDA, and I met at his QTH last Saturday to review the layout.  What A Sweet Site!  Thank you Bob!!

He has a covered patio with TV, BBQ, and comfy chairs.  Hex Beam and 80m dipole already installed and ready to go.  Setup is going to be a breeze.

Speaking of setup, we would like to start setup on Friday, 10/5/18, at 2 PM.  Should only take a few hours.  We need to:

  1. Install 160m end-fed antenna
  2. Setup tables and chairs for three stations
  3. Setup radios and logging PCs for three stations.
  4. Run tests on equipment

Everyone can go home Friday night for a good nights sleep, in your own beds!!

We will start Saturday morning with a Team Meeting at 07:00 AM.  This will give us an opportunity to discuss strategy, review how the logging software works, and train those of you first timers how to run a contest.

Contest starts at 09:00, Saturday, and runs through Sunday, 15:00, local time.

Please let me  know your availability.  Thank you!!

What the heck does “73” mean?  73 is morse code short hand for “Best Regards” used by Ham radio operators.  It’s origin goes all the way back to the landline telegraph days.

Oh Rats! I have a schedule conflict! My wife reminded me just today that our annual Spaghetti Feed Fund Raiser is Saturday, October 06, and I'm the Auctioneer. I'll be totally out of commission Saturday from noon on.

I can still get gear to you, and show up Sunday. Truly sorry for the last-minute notice.
